The Khamyang of India, numbering approximately 2,000 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are described as a small Buddhist peasant community of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh descended from the Tai people, closely related to the Khampti. Terrace cultivation remains their main livelihood, supplemented by trade and government jobs They are an Indigenous people, with Khamyan as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Tibetan people cluster of the Tibetan Peoples. Their primary religion is Theravada Buddhism. They primarily speak Assamese.
