They are described as a hill-dwelling Indigenous community of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal They are an Indigenous people, with Paharia as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Nepali-Pahari people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Bengali.
