The Turkmen are a Turkic people predominantly found in Turkmenistan, Iran, and Afghanistan, with smaller communities scattered throughout Central Asia. They speak the Turkmen language. A nomadic people, the Turkmen are skilled in horsemanship and carpet weaving. Major Turkmen tribes include the Teke, Yomut, Arsary, Chowdur and Saryk.
