The Minangkabau are an ethnic group indigenous to the Minangkabau Highlands of West Sumatra. The Rejang are an ethnic group scattered along the southwest coast of Sumatra. These two groups and a few smaller groups native to the region comprise the Minangkabau-Rejang of Sumatra people cluster. Sunni Islam is practiced by most of these peoples.
